Students are the heart of our ministry and the way we carry out our mission is ever-changing based on their gifts, talents, and perspectives. We're always looking for new ways to show the love of God and underrepresented areas to serve, so we welcome you to join our team!
Hannah smith, in focus group leader
Hi everyone! My name is Hannah Smith and I am so excited to serve as the In Focus Group Leader this year! I am a senior majoring in History and American Indian & Indigenous Studies and minoring in Christianity & Culture. I hope to attend divinity school after graduation. I love Wesley because of the caring and genuine people in this community. You can almost always find me hanging out in our wonderful Loft space or on a Wesley trip. I am forever addicted to chocolate and coffee, and am most happy in the mountains. I can't wait to meet you and start laughing together!
johnny coppley, social chair
Hey! I'm Johnny Coppley and I'm a sophomore at UNC from Winston-Salem, NC. I'm currently studying Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching, and I'm hoping to one day be a Physical Therapist! In my free time, I love to play basketball, throw a football around, or just hang out with my friends. I've grown up as a follower of Jesus, and I've done a lot to put myself in positions to show others the love that Jesus had to offer! If you ever need a friend I'm there, because can you really ever have enough friends?
avery buie, hospitality
I am sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill and am majoring in Global Studies, though a double major may happen in the future. I am very excited to be serving on the In Focus leadership team this year in the section of Hospitality, and hope that everyone will find a place for themselves in Wesley. I love all things food and chocolate related, Marvel, and books, so if you ever need to have a fangirl session with me on anything, don’t hesitate to reach out.
alex erling, hospitality
My name is Alex Erling and I'm a sophomore from Wilmington, NC. I'm an Exercise and Sports Science and Sociology double-major with a Chemistry minor. I came to Wesley to find a family while at Chapel Hill, and that is exactly what I have. Even though I did not grow up in the Methodist faith, this community possesses beliefs that match my own and has helped me to grow spiritually during my time at Carolina. I am very excited to further my involvement this year and help others find their place, too!
Delaney davis, communications
Hi all! I'm a sophomore double-majoring in Chemistry and Anthropology with a minor in German from High Point, NC. I'm passionate about aiding in the refugee crisis, learning how environment shapes cultural identity, and thinking through how we can understand the Bible in the modern world. I love rain, Scooby-Doo, broccoli, archaeology, and all genres of rock music (but especially the cringy post-hardcore bands from middle school). If you ever need me there is an 87.9% chance that I'm at Late Night in the dining hall or flashing awkward peace signs in professional situations. In all sincerity, I'm excited to serve Wesley this year as Wesley has served me, and look forward to seeing you all grow. Wesley has given me a place to think differently about my faith and to realize that some of my "secular" activities and how God called us to live are not mutually exclusive, and I hope it becomes the same for you!
Katie distefano, out focus group leader
My name is Katie Distefano and I am a Junior majoring in Dramatic Art and Linguistics and minoring in Speech and Hearing Sciences. After undergrad, I plan to go to grad school to become a Speech Language Pathologist. I am extremely extroverted, talk way too much, and LOVE theater. I am the queen of taking on too many things and I love to plan ahead so that I always know much time I have to procrastinate.
Anna gregory, evangelism and outreach
Hey y'all! My name is Anna and I'm a sophomore in Wesley and a Nursing major. This year I am leading the Evangelism and Outreach group and my goal is to meet and welcome all of you guys! I love cooking, Pinterest projects, Netflix, volleyball, and a lot of other things in between. I'm a procrastinator so catch me in the Loft studying until midnight every night! I love to talk and like to think I'm pretty approachable, so never shy away from introducing yourself and I would love to have a conversation with you. Wesley is easily my second family and I'm betting you will love the community we have here! -Anna ;)
justis mitchell, missions
Hey friends! My name is Justis Mitchell and I am a sophomore here at UNC. I am double-majoring in Linguistics and Human Development and Family Studies, with a minor in Speech and Hearing Sciences (I know, it's a mouthful). With this, I -hopefully- plan to go to audiology school and become a pediatric audiologist. I am originally from a little town called Welcome, NC, which is right outside of Winston-Salem. I will be serving as the Missions Chair for Wesley this next year and I am beyond excited to see where God is going to take this ministry this year in missions. I really have a heart for missions and it's something I am super passionate about! Please come on our trips, we would love to have you!!
evan morgan, mercy & justice
So I'm Evan Morgan. I am a Bio major on a Pre-med track. I love golfing, basketball, and Irish music. I am a co-chair for Mercy & Justice and plan to increase our personal connections with our neighbors in need on Franklin Street and make them feel like part of our church family. A fun fact about me is I can sing just about any Irish jig you can think of.
mcrae scott, mercy & justice
Hi, my name is McRae. My hobbies are attending Thursday Night Dinner, sleeping, and long walks on Franklin St. I am from Pink Hill, NC, which is about an hour away from the coast and is a small town with one stop light. I am currently a sophomore with an intended major of Psychology and a double-minor in Religious Studies and Chinese. I started attending Wesley as a first-year and it has turned into my home away from home. My favorite part is Worship and the supporting community that is within Wesley. My goal for Wesley is to help it grow in numbers but also let it be a place where others feel loved and can find a welcoming community.
