Hello and Welcome Tarheels!
Thanks for checking us out here on the Wesley Campus
Ministry Website for UNC-CH. Our community is one of fellowship,
exploration of faith, and spiritual growth. My name is Emily Osterhus,
and I will be the President of Wesley’s leadership team for 2008-2009. If
I have never met you, I cannot wait to do so. Come hang out with us! We
have lots of events each week:
-Sunday Night Worship
starting at 7pm led by Wesley students and our Campus Minister, and planned by our
Worship Committee
-
Lunch on campus
- Small Bible Study Groups on
various topics each semester
- Holy Communion, and a
3$Meal
-Programs
-A Wesley Intramural Sports
team- the Awkward Moose! No experience necessary, just excitement about
playing! –We play every sport!
We also go on a work team trip every spring break to a
different location in need. Last year Wesley sent 16 students went to Panama to
work in schools and churches. This year we hope to go on a domestic trip
out west, and explore different socio-political questions and how they
connect with our faith. In addition to the large work team projects, our
Mercy and Justice team plans local service opportunities. This year we went gleaning
, worked with Habitat for Humanity and participated in Relay for
Life. We also traveled to Washington DC
to visit our UMC General Board of Church and Society and learned about
how mercy and justice dictates our actions as Methodists. Our Spiritual
Growth committee leads retreats for First years each fall. And everyone
is invited to one retreat each semester. In the fall we go to the beach,
and in the spring we go to the mountains.
Our students are our leaders here at Wesley. We plan
activities that we think everyone will be interested in, and we decide
our events. There are committees for Spiritual Growth, Worship Planning,
Social Events, Work Team Trips, Hospitality, Mercy and Justice and many
other areas. If you want to get involved in helping us plan our
activities, there is a place for you.
So as you can see, we are a busy group. There is a
place for everyone here. We would love to have you come worship, learn,
and grow with us as we seek to welcome God’s vision and love into our
lives.
