Campus Minister and Executive Director, Wesley Campus Ministry
Wesley Campus Ministry seeks a visionary and dynamic leader of its campus ministry program. Wesley Campus Ministry is vital and growing, with 60-80 active students engaged in a ministry program of student leadership development, worship, local, national, and international missions, small groups, and intentional community life. Wesley Campus Ministry utilizes space across the campus in order live into our missional calling. We also have space near campus for student social gatherings, ministry offices, and prayer. The campus minister supervises staff and seminary interns and relates to a Board of Directors, Board of Visitors, the wider university community, and the UMC connectional system.
The successful candidate will be a gifted communicator, passionate about campus ministry in the 21st century, able to articulate and give life to a compelling vision for campus ministry, and will have demonstrated capable leadership in developing student leaders, managing and directing staff and interns, crafting vision, and relating to many different constituencies about the ministry. The successful candidate will be theologically trained and curious, able to relate to students where they are in their personal and cultural setting, will be grounded in Wesleyan theology and tradition, able to manage and even transform conflict situations, and able to develop and articulate a worship life for the community. Personal maturity and integrity are essential, and the ability to relate in caring ways with students, board members, and the wider community are also essential.
Candidates must have a Masters of Divinity degree, be an ordained Elder or Deacon (or on track to be ordained) within the United Methodist Church, possess strong communication skills, and have demonstrated prior commitment/experience with campus ministry. Preferred candidates will have at least five years’ experience in a campus ministry setting (as a campus minister, student, or local board member).
The position is an extension ministry appointment within the United Methodist Church. The Campus Minister works with a Board of Directors and students to chart and implement the vision and strategic plan for the ministry.
